Czech language courses for students with a different mother tongue
Inadequate knowledge of the Czech language is a significant barrier for children with a different mother tongue and is a common cause of their dropping out of the education system. The aim of this activity, which is being implemented within the European project, is to improve Czech language skills of students with a different mother tongue, thus contributing to the successful completion of studies at secondary schools, including the verification of final knowledge (passing the final or matriculation exam).

The group supported are students of 8th and 9th grades of primary schools and all secondary schools in the Moravian-Silesian Region whose mother tongue is a language other than Czech.
The desired objective of this activity is to be achieved through the implementation of interrelated activities:
- Full-time and online language improvement course for secondary school students – the courses will be implemented during the school years 2021/2022 and 2022/2023, in the scope of 2×2 hours per week (total of about 40 weeks). 15 groups should be created in each school year across the Moravian-Silesian Region
- Intensive summer improvement course for students – this is the culmination of year-long educational activities in Czech language courses for secondary school students with a different mother tongue. The conversation topics will be focused on specific areas and will be implemented by going to different environments (restaurant, café, gallery). In each of these environments, the students will have the opportunity to talk to “locals” and interesting activities will be prepared for them. The course will take place during the holidays in an intensive form, 5 days a week, daily from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. One day a week, instruction will take place in the afternoon and evening, from 12:00 Noon to 8:00 p.m. We expect to organise 6 courses each school year (i.e., 12 summer courses per project)
The implementation of the activities is planned for the period from September/2021 to August/2023. The implementation of the activity is the responsibility of the project partner "Celé Česko čte dětem" (Every Czech Reads to Kids) who can be approached directly.
