Chinese musicians participate in the international competition Pro Bohemia 2018

The 16th year of the international interpretation competition Pro Bohemia Ostrava 2018 was held by the Janáček Conservatory in Ostrava from the 5th to 8th April for wind instruments (woodwind and brass), piano, organ and singing

Musicians from the Moravian and Silesian Region’s partner province Jiang-su were among this year’s competitors. A student from the Music School of the University of the Arts from Nanjing, Zhang LiHeng, competed in the saxophone section with piano accompaniment by Ye Jingang. They received an honourable mention for their performance.

Professor Zhou Jianming, Director of the Music School of the University of the Arts, consulted as an expert on the judging panel, and Mgr. Soňa Javůrková, Director of the Janáček Conservatory, discussed the options for cooperation between the two institutions with the Chinese partner. The programme prepared for the Chinese musicians included an opera performance by the Silesian Theatre in Opava and a visit to Hukvaldy — birthplace of L. Janáček, where Professor Zhou Jianming was received by the Deputy Mayor.

Participation of the Chinese musicians at the Pro Bohemia 2018 competition was one of the first steps in implementing the agreement on partnership concluded between the Moravian and Silesian Region and the Jiang-su province in July last year.
