Polish Competition Winners Receive Awards from Representatives of the Region for their Knowledge about the Czech Republic

The winners of a competition for the most interesting multimedia presentation on the topic “I Know the History, Culture and Everyday Life of Our Neighbours – the Czechs”, co-organised by the Moravian-Silesian Region, were announced on 16 December 2016 at the University of Opole.

The participants in the competition included pupils and students at primary, secondary and tertiary vocational schools, who could prepare presentations on topics not only from Czech history, topography and culture, but also from ordinary life, e.g. about popular Czech food. The winning works included a treatise on the history of the Czech Brethren’s sojourn in Polish Silesia and a presentation about singer-songwriter Jaromír Nohavica, a great promoter of Czech-Polish relations.

A representative of the Department of Education, Youth and Sports of the Regional Authority of the Moravian-Silesian Region read a letter of greeting in Polish to the participants present from Ivo Vondrák, President of the Moravian-Silesian Region. In this letter, the President of the Region thanked the contestants for their interest in the history and life of their close neighbours, the Czechs, and expressed his belief that the reward for the winner – a one-day tour of the Moravian-Silesian Region – would contribute to further enhancing their interest in the Czech Republic.

After the winning presentations were shown and the winners in the individual categories received their awards, a cultural programme took place to bring the whole event to a close.
