Spanish Ambassador visited the Moravian-Silesian Region

The Spanish Ambassador to the Czech Republic Ángel Lossada Torres-Quevedo accepted Deputy Governor Jan Krkoška’s invitation and visited the Moravian-Silesian Region on the occasion of the 20th TROFEO NIKÉ, a traditional vintage car rally. Besides attending this unique event, the Ambassador’s programme included a visit to Leoš Janáček Airport and a tour of the city of Ostrava. The Spanish Ambassador also visited the Lower Vítkovice Area, which is the most frequently visited attraction in the region.

“I greatly welcome the Ambassador’s decision to accept our invitation and visit the region to experience the unique event TROFEO NIKÉ. A vehicle once belonging to the Spanish royal family was personally shown to the Ambassador at this event, and he sincerely appreciated this special experience,” said Deputy Governor Jan Krkoška.

During his visit, the Ambassador showed interest in the development of tourism and cultural heritage sites in our region. The Ambassador and Deputy Governor also discussed the similarities between Spain’s Bilbao and Ostrava, both cities possessing an industrial past and experience in transforming their economy and changing the negative perceptions of their entire region. Just as the Lower Vítkovice Area, the town of Bilbao also became home to some unconventional buildings, such as the well-known Guggenheim museum, which brought new life to the area and made it more attractive to residents.

“I am pleased to have been able to visit the Moravian-Silesian Region on the occasion of such an exceptional event. While I was touring the Lower Vítkovice Area, it was interesting to see how the former industrial area had been transformed into a charming location that attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors every year,” said the Ambassador while expressing his gratitude for the invitation.

Ambassador Ángel Lossada Torres-Quevedo has been appointed to the Czech Republic since November 2018. As the Ambassador considers the Moravian-Silesian Region a very important area, this was his third visit since his appointment to office. “I feel honoured that the Spanish diplomat chose to visit to our region so soon after commencing office. I am confident that we will continue to develop a friendly relationship,” said Krkoška.
