The Governor receives the Chargé d’affaires of Iran

On Tuesday, 27 June 2017, Ivo Vondrák, Governor of the Moravian-Silesian Region, met J. E. Ali Akbar Jowkar, Chargé d’affaires of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the Czech Republic.

This was Mr. Jowkar’s first official visit to the Moravian-Silesian Region and Ostrava. J. E. Ali Akbar Jowkar’s programme for his visit to the region included a meeting with Governor Vondrák, the VŠB – Technical University, the Nanotechnological Centre, the Centre of Advanced and Innovative Technologies, and the Regional Chamber of Commerce. The selection of institutions indicate that the main objective of the visit by the Chargé d’affaires was to restore the formerly established cooperation between traditional partners. J. E. Ali Akbar Jowkar confirmed this personally in his meeting with the Governor. Czechoslovak trolleybuses operate in Tehran to this day and an engineering company built with the assistance of Czechoslovakia operates in Tabriz. He highlighted mining and a wide range of raw materials, railway, and engineering as the main, potential areas of cooperation and invited the region’s representatives to visit Iran.

Governor Vondrák expressed his agreement with this idea and added university collaboration to the potential areas of cooperation. To close the meeting, the Governor thanked the Iranian Chargé d’affaires for his invitation, stating that it would be his pleasure to introduce options for cooperation and conducting business in Iran to suitable entrepreneurial entities and organisations in the region, and should interest be expressed, the region would gladly contribute to organising a business mission aimed at developing business relationships between the two countries.
