The Ostrava Puppet Theatre introduces itself to Russia

The Vologda Oblast in the Russian Federation, our partner with whom we established collaboration in 2005, invited our region to present the work of our artists at the Voices of History International Theatre Festival. Puppet theatres could participate for the first time in the fourteenth season of this theatre show. The Ostrava Puppet Theatre successfully represented the Moravian Silesian Region with a performance of the Hansel and Gretel fairy tale, directed by Václav Klemens. Two performances were given – one in the city of Vologda and one in the city of Cherepovets. Even though there was a language barrier, Russian children were successfully caught up in the plot of the fairy tale thanks to the stage design and especially the performance given by the actors.

Along with the Puppet Theatre, we sent a delegation to our partner region headed by first Deputy Regional President Lukáš Curyl, who is responsible for culture in our region. Meeting with the Vologda Oblast management, the Department of Cultural and Historic Preservation presented an offer of potential collaboration in historic preservation, exchange of exhibitions and participation of Russian folklore ensembles at various festivals, and reciprocal cultural projects. During its stay in the Vologda Oblast, our delegation also had the opportunity to become familiar with the local culture and the conditions and possibilities for sharing experience in the field of cultural and historic preservation.
